New RetroFE modular installation on EmuMovies FTP

I've uploaded a new modular RetroFE system to the EmuMovies FTP site, at /Official/Retro FE Media Pack
While it contains a README.txt as well, a bit of explanation:
- The RetroFE base xxx.zip file contains the base RetroFE installation for version xxx, with the latest executable. It's not very different from what you can find in the download section at RetroFE, except that it does not have the (nearly empty) Sega Genesis and Arcade collection.
- The MAME 0.yyy emulator.zip file contains the MAME emulator installation for version yyy. All the collections currently in the set use MAME as their emulator, and the launchers all point to this installation.
- The rest of the zip files contain collections, as complete as I have them, with launchers for Linux and Windows. Just unzip them in the RetroFE directory.
- The emulators directory contains the MAME artwork (bezels), which can you simply drag and drop as a whole into your RetroFE directory. The MAME installation mentioned above will automatically use them.

Basically, all you need to do is take the base (or use your own), unzip the MAME installation if you want, unzip the collections you want, add them to your Main collection's menu.txt file, add your games, and enjoy. :) The sets are mostly based on HyperSpin 1.0 XML files, so finding the corresponding games should be easy. :)

Is there access to the documentation without having a current membership?  Just looking for info to read before I can get my membership.

Sure, just check http://www.retrofe.nl

You can find documentation there, but also a download of the front-end itself to play around with. Membership here is only needed if you want the movies and/or the art sets. What's on the FTP is just a convenience, not a requirement to use RetroFE. :)

Is it just me or are there folders missing on the ftp?

all i can see is:

Retro FE media pack -> Emulators -> MAME

that's all the folders in there... i'm brand new but that doesn't look right. what have i done wrong?

See the OP. :)

Everything is packed into zip files; the only folder structure is a drag-and-drop set of MAME bezels that you can use.

Basically you download the RetroFE base zip file, and unpack it. This creates a RetroFE directory with all the front-end's files in it. Then, if you don't feel like setting up your own emulators, simply unpack the MAME emulator zip file in the created RetroFE directory. This sets up your emulator for all the other packages. Then unzip the system packages (e.g. Super Nintendo Entertainment System.zip) that you want, and add the name to the collections/Main/menu.txt file. This will add all the artwork for a specific console/arcade set to your RetroFE setup. Then add your roms (that's something we cannot provide for you), and you're ready to play.

I've started building my own cabinet and came across retrofe and emumovies.  I'm very impressed with the work done on both and currently have the retrofe media pack downloading.

I have no programming experience  (will try to learn some basics to take full advatage of the software eventually) though and had some questions.

When I unzip the files to the retrofe directory am I unzipping to c/retrofe?  Or somewhere else?  Do you have any tips where I can start learning command prompt as it relates to retrofe?  Could steam games be added to the front end?
