MAME Game Rating Project

I have started a community project to get the MAME games rated in anticipation of the release of HS 2.on Hyperspin. I am sure that this list could be used by other FE's if they want to incorporate it.

Once we get the initial set rated it will be easy for me to maintain from here on out.

We will be going under the assumption for now that all clones will have the same rating as their parent

We will be using the AAMA rating system for MAME.

AAMA started in 1988 so all games 1988 or later will have an AAMA rating. Games prior to 1988 will not

For games prior to 1988 you will need to guess what the AAMA rating would be. For 1988 on please find the real AAMA rating for the game. if you have problems finding it please ask for help here in this thread. We want this list to be as accurate as possible.

I will be compiling this list in a catver.ini file format

example:

game123=Green (Suitable For All Ages)

The ratings that will be used are as follows:

Green (Suitable For All Ages)

Yellow (Animated Violence Mild)

Yellow (Life Like Violence Mild)

Yellow (Sexual Content Mild)

Yellow (Language Mild)

Red (Animated Violence Strong)

Red (Life Like Violence Strong)

Red (Sexual Content Strong)

Red (Language Strong)

Here is guidlines for ratings straight from AAMA:

http://www.coin-op.org/pdfs/Guidelin...ng%20Games.pdf

Rate the Games HERE:

http://70.154.96.33/hs/ratings.asp

Here is a list of what appears to be accurate AAMA ratings:

http://www.coin-op.org/Games%20Rating%20List.htm (I have already done through Konami, If you do any sections on this list please post here so people know its done)

If a game is not on the list that you are working on, please first check the year the game was made, if it was made in 1988 or later it should have an AAMA rating so search and find what it is, wikipedia is good for this. If it was made before 1988 then you will need to make one up based on the above AAMA guidelines PDF posted above.

I hope you all can help with this project. With all of us working on this it shouldnt take long to complete!

Thanks

Jon

I was into the arcades back in 81 - 83. Games that I remember are the classics like Tempest, Asteroids, Jungle Hunt, Centipede, Pac Man, Galaga, Dragon's Lair, Star Wars, Robotron, Pheonix, etc.

I can't think of any games from that time period that had sexual content, or violence. Of course, I am not familiar with what was popular in Japan and I wasn't into fighting games. Maybe somebody else can come up with a game that did have adult content. If not, then I think that games from that period could be marked as green.

Just my 2¢

Yea, a ton of these are real easy to mark as green, so I have been going through a ton. If you want to go through some that are obvious green it would be greatly appreciated
