Circo
I mentioned before that I was updating the MAME video set, and as all things around here it has ended up being a bigger project than I initially intended. However, I am really excited about this update, and there are quite a few tweaks that I have made to this very important set. I have received quite a lot of feedback since I released the MAME .128 set earlier this year. I hope I have addressed any issues and everyone will find value in this version. #1 – Normalized Audio – That’s right! Since MAME does a very accurate job of emulating the original arcade hardware, volume levels are different on almost every game. Because of this the volume was very random across the video snaps, and as you were scrolling the game list you would almost have to keep a hand on your volume control. Now all previews will have the same volume level and that should make for a much better experience in your front end. #2 – Transitions and Fades – Just like the recent Nintendo releases all videos will now have subdued transitional effects. There is a very quick fade in to the clip followed by a layered transition between the game play and title sequences. This gives the clip a much more polished and professional look and also improves the way the clips repeat. #3 – New “Game Not Working” Graphic – Originally I had decided to include a small video clip of the red ERROR screen or faulty game play, but I have since come to the conclusion that it really just clutters and bloats the set. I have now replaced the videos of these games with a common “Error” PNG. This is another thing that will become common across all of the video snap sets. #4 – 30-40% Decrease in Set Size – With some smarter encoding settings and better editing, I have reduced the overall file size of the set by approximately 30-40%. As there is still a ways to go in this upgrade I am not sure exactly how great the effect will be but I am feeling good about an overall 40% reduction in the size of the set.* *HiQ AVI version #5 – Updated to the Latest Version of MAME – As I am doing each letter I am adding new videos for any games recently working or added to MAME. Currently I am shooting for MAME version .134 but we may get to .135 or possibly even .136 by the time the conversion is done. #6 – Replacing Video Snaps for Vector Games – The videos for vector based games were fairly dim and hard to see, I have corrected this by increasing the beam width and brightness in MAME and creating new videos. I have just uploaded the First 292 videos and images to the FTP in the AVI section. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Circo
Going forward all sets will need to meet this standard, that way there will be no more double work. I will be working closely with any contributers to make sure all new content meets this standard. Much work yet to be done but the end result should make your front-ends and cabs works of art

Circo
There hasn't been any meaningful progress lately. While I was away I was away from the entire project. Currently the intros for the new hyperspin release are taking my attention as well as some housekeeping items around the site.
