What game series has the most fanatical fan base?

You read about crazy fans all the time, you find mountains of fan related material like artwork, soundtracks, stories, cosplay, animations and who knows what else... but I've been wondering for a while... which series HANDS DOWN has the most fanatical and dedicated fan base? I want to start a poll, but I don't even know what to put on there, since I'm not too familiar with all the different groups... especially series that are internationally famous. I know Sonic fans are crazy, but the games are crap now. Earthbound fans are crazy.... but I don't think Japan cares about it. Pokemon, Final Fantasy... And I can name a few others.... but what's the MOST crazy?

In my area (and the few friends I have), its all about Halo. Halo costumes, Halo toilet paper, Halo bookmarks, Halo coffee mugs. Its a bit out of hand. I enjoy Halo: Combat Evolved, thats it. Is that so wrong?

Back on topic, Mario craze is crazy, the Halo thing and of course Final Fantasy. Those are my input.
