.NET Framework installation problems

jlfreund

Question

Although I don't think this is an EmuSync problem, I'm wondering if other users are experiencing problems trying to download and install the prerequisite .NET framework?  I'm running from a brand new installation of Windows 11 Pro on a brand new PC, with all drivers and Windows components fully upgraded.

When running the SetupEmuMoviesSync270.exe installer, it correctly detects the prerequisite .NET 2.0 SP1 is not installed and tries to install it.  That part of the installer basically halts or freezes half way through.  When I try to manually install that same framework directly from Microsoft (link), that one produces an error message: "Windows couldn't find required files to complete the requested changes...." Error code: 0x800F081F (which is essentially a "File not found" error).  I'm just relying on a Microsoft installer to download and install, so a "File Not Found" doesn't make sense to me.

The Microsoft installer for Net2.0SP1 actually tries to install .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0).  I'm wondering if anyone knows of a reliable way to install the required framework?  I should have much newer frameworks installed (on behalf of Launchbox), so I'm wondering if EmuSync can get by with those (and somehow bypass the older version of .NET framework installation)?

With some help from Gemini, I was able to workaround the problem

Press the Windows key + S, type features, and click on Turn Windows features on or off.

In the "Windows Features" dialog, look for ".NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)" and ".NET Framework 4.8 Advanced Services" (the version number might be slightly different depending on the updates).

This method seems to have kicked off a different installer process that downloaded and applied the changes, so now I have .NET 3.5 downloaded and enabled.
