Crime fighters is the one I find to be the hardest beat'em up.

I'm gonna have to throw another one in for Battletoads.  It's just impossible.

Battletoads FTW?

Double Dragon for sure. The delay is nuts. Battletoads just for pure precision required

Battletoads is easy, until you leave the beat-em-up mode and start racing, then it's time to reset lol.

X-Men 4-player arcade cabinet.

This was one of the hardest ones on my wallet, i think it cost me like 25 coins to finish it the first time. But i would vote for Battletoads as well.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES was so hard. It took me forever to beat it.

Technically not really a beat 'em up, but very hard indeed! Played it again recently on an emulator with save states, i was surprised how far i got when i was young without save states. All those old games are much harder indeed. The first few screens of Mega Man for example are harder than a lot of end-game levels of current games. Remorseless!

Do the NES versions of Ninja Gaiden rank or even count?
I say thats more of a platformer than beatemup.... i dunno. All 3 of those did have very difficult parts though.

How about Golden Axe? I dont remember ever actually finishing it!

I guess Battletoads won. This is one of my favorite genres and I'm always looking for new recommendations. If you really want to increase the difficulty of Battletoads though, play with a small child that thinks its fun to pummel his partner...

🤣
